A qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years teaching experience, Alexia is an established Literacy and Storytelling Expert. Read on to see why she is a champion for Literacy and reading.
“Literacy and storytelling along with reading and phonics are what I am most passionate about. I believe that when taught well and there is a culture of reading at home, children can make excellent progress. Reading has so many benefits for children. Not only does it increase their fluency but their vocabulary is broadened; it can improve their social skills as they become more empathetic and it also aids with their comprehension. Finally, reading is proven to enhance children’s writing as they take language and emulate the style of writing from their favourite authors”.
“While teaching and leading in schools, I established numerous initiatives including the National Strategies ‘Talk for Writing’ and CLPE’s ‘The Power of Reading’. My teaching was both in KS1 and KS2. I set up a whole school reading scheme, advised on effective Book Corners and guided teachers in creating writing areas in classrooms that enthused pupils about reading and writing”.
“Having delivered training across the country on Literacy, Phonics and reading and writing difficulties, I have met many teaching professionals and have current knowledge on what teachers need to help them teach better Literacy lessons. Similarly, parents need support to understand more about the National Curriculum, Phonics and what they can do at home to support their child”.
